Makeup Play Day with Maranda!

I met Maranda nearly 2 years ago in geology class. It was my final senior year of college and I had put off taking my second science class since my freshman year 5 years earlier. I like to be annoyingly early, so first day of class I was one of the first in the room and already seated. Minutes before class started a girl comes in and sits down beside me. I pay no mind to her not realizing that God had just sat a really good friend down next me. First day of class and the teacher already jumped into work and says "partner with the person beside you and y'all name the planets in order". Maranda and I look at each other and at the same time say "I don't care about this crap". Later that day I'm sitting in geology lab and in walks this girl again, she walks over to me and says "I already know you from earlier so I'm sitting with you". Weeks later we were friends and knew each other's life stories. Maranda has no censor and no problem saying what she thinks or feels at any given time. She would fight to the finish to stand up for the ones she loves. She's a truly genuine person and I am so happy to call her friend!

I have since moved out of my college town but I went back a few days ago to visit Maranda. We had a hair and makeup play day after watching Will&Grace the night before! If there is one thing I could tell about Maranda from the first seconds meeting her is she is not a liar by any means. Although she did lie to me when she said "I'm not photogenic". Whatever! Girl's got some skills and a pretty face! Here are pictures from our day!

Kelsie's Prom

I have known Kelsie most of her life, so when she asked me to do her hair and makeup for her senior prom I was delighted! Also I'll take any chance at all to spend time with her family. I just love them all so much! I looked at my phone a little after 10 that night to see I had a missed call from Kelsie. First I think "oh no she had an eyelash fall off". Then I had a brief moment of panic thinking "Oh no! Kelsie is calling at 10 o'clock on prom night! Something could be really wrong!" I called her back and my panic turned to a smile when she said "I'm sorry if I bothered you but I wanted to let you know that I was voted best hair at prom! I thought you would like that!" So here is Kelsie and her award winning prom hair!!

About a Boy

As I spent yesterday reading InStyle and Marie Claire I was overly intrigued by a Chanel lipstick ad. I have always had a slight obsession with the story of Coco Chanel and I could not quit looking at this add. The ad did it's job perfectly! It sold the lipstick to me instantly. My eyes kept going right back to the lips and the color on them. Now it escapes me which magazine I read about the lipstick in but one of them had a write up about it. This shade from Chanel is named 'Boy'. It was named after the love of Coco Chanel's life, Captain Arthur Edward 'Boy' Capel. With already having an obsession with Coco's story I had to have this lipstick.

I went to Nordstrom today and told the lady "I need the lipstick in the ad!" She hadn't seen the ads yet but knew instantly I was talking about 'Boy'. She told me that the shade had launched only in a few larger stores to start with and no one else was allowed to launch it until April 6th. She said they have had it for a while but if anyone put it out or sold it they would lose their job. Basically, this lipstick is a big deal! So I obviously left Nordstrom owning 'Boy'.

I could not wait to get in the door earlier and try this lipstick on. I can not quit rubbing my lips together. It feels so great on! The color is perfect for all skin tones and colors! And added bonus: It looks great with this years hot color...coral! Sweep some coral shadow across your lids, mascara to lengthen your lash line and make your eyes pop even more, and rub 'Boy' all over your lips! You've got a look that is great for everyday and with a few minor adjustments can be taken from day to night in minutes!

Until next time!

Sally Hansen: Salon Effects

I am absolutely loving Sally Hansen's Salon Effects right now. There are other products out on the market similar to this. I have bought two different ones from O.P.I but with the price I paid for those I have yet to use them. It's like buying a new shirt, but you're afraid to wear it for fear of getting it dirty. So, that is why I am loving Sally Hansen's product. It is definitely worth every bit of $8.50 and you can get it anywhere! Now I know you may be thinking that's a little steep for a one time only product. Sure you can go out and buy a nice bottle of Orly or O.P.I polish for $8.00 and it last you a year. But with Salon Effects you're knocking out dry time, multiple coats making more dry time, and your product is staying on for 10 days just as the box says. And what else? It is SO easy! Just peel, stick, file and you've got nails that look like they just left the salon!

Day with Reese...hair and a child's makeup

So I wear many hats. One of which being a Camp Fire USA leader. I grew up in Camp Fire and have been a part of the organization for 16 years now. Little Reese here is in my group and well she is a hoot! I wanted to do a child's makeup to put in my portfolio and I knew Reese was perfect to do this with. She's outgoing and just a little ham. So I spent a day with Reese doing her hair and a fresh faced, camera ready child's makeup. Then we went out and took pictures. So here is a small collection of them:

Reese showing off the top of her head.

"You braided that better than the Jamaican's that braided my hair when I got my hair braided on a cruise when I was like 5!"-Reese

Again with making sure I got a picture of her hair. All poses also brought to you courtesy of Reese. I told her not once what to do. The child really is a natural and one day when I'm old and still a starving artist she will support me with the money she makes from becoming a Disney child star.

And that was my day with Reesey!

First Post

So this is supposed to be that first initial blog where I say who I am and what I am all about. I kind of already did that though with my about me. Read it...that tells it all. Instead I'll include some pictures to show what I am all about. Also I'll say I'm going to use this blog to document my makeup adventures to kind of create an online portfolio, share pro tips and tricks, share about new products I use and try and so forth and so on. Actually there is no telling what you may find on here at any given time.
